There are ways to give that don’t involve presents. If you have the means or the time during this special time of year, consider giving to those less fortunate than you so they too can feel the joy of this winter season. Here are some great volunteer opportunities in Paramount, CA, this year:

Univision’s “The Spirit of Giving” Toy Drive: This toy drive really focuses on the spirit of giving, with their free toys, haircuts, health screenings, COVID-19 vaccinations, legal counseling, activities for kids, and more. The event is free and open to all, so if you or anyone you know is struggling this holiday season, invite them to the Univision Toy Drive and join the spirit of giving!

Heart of Christmas Food, Toy, and Book Donation Drive: The goal of this donation drive is to create a positive and joyful memory for youth during Christmas 2021. The drive will be donating food, toys, and books to those in need. The event will include musicians, storytime, and book and toy giveaways, so be sure to volunteer for a great, entertaining, feel-good experience where you have the opportunity to help those less fortunate than you are!

Christmas Together 2021: Christmas Together will be distributing 20,000 toys and creating an unforgettable experience for children to enjoy. This experience will include carnival rides and games, raffles, entertainment, a picture with Santa, COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, holiday meals, and a variety of food options—all for free! Quantity is limited, so register soon!

Safe Celebration

Did you know that the holiday season is when candle stores see their biggest boom in sales? Everyone loves a good pine-scented candle this time of year, but you must be careful when enjoying this seasonal scent. Did you know that up to 7,500 fires are started each year because of household candles? Consider using battery-powered candles to achieve the same ambiance without the added danger. Whatever you do, never leave your holiday candles unattended!

Christmas trees can be another fire hazard this time of year. If you’re one of the many Americans who can’t go without a real Christmas tree display in your apartment during the holiday season, then just make sure you keep it watered! Dry pine needles are extra flammable. Keep all open flames, such as candles, away from the branches, and make sure you turn all lights off when you’re not at home. Stay safe and enjoy the holidays!
